How to Reach

Ilam is a hill district of Himalayan Country Nepal. It is about 600 plus kilometers by distance from the Capital City Kathmandu. The major routes to reach Ilam Bazar are as mentioned:

1. From Kathmandu
a. Domestic flight from Tribhuwan International Airport to Bhadrapur Regional Airport, Jhapa. It takes 50 minutes. Then 3 hours drive by road.

b. Domestic flight from Tribhuwan International Airport to Biratnagar Regional Airport, Morang. It takes 40 minutes. Then 4-5 hours drive by road.

c. Direct bus survice from Kathmandu to Ilam Bazar. You can find many kinds of buses i.e, super a/c deluxe, normal deluxe & normal. Some of them providing WIFI service also. Normally bus starts from Kathmandu by 2-3 PM everyday & reaches next day morning by 7-8 AM.

2. From the players who comes through India

There are many routes from India. Two of them which is near by Ilam are:

a. NJP(New Jalpaiguri) Railway Station, West Bengal

b. Jogbani Railway Station, Bihar

a. From NJP, Nepal boarder Kakarvitta is about 35 kilometers by road. Birtamod is the main junction to start the journey for Ilam which lies on East-West Highway of Nepal, only 10 kilometers from Kakarvitta. You can find many types of public vehicle from Birtamod to Ilam. It is about 80 kilometers by distacne & takes 2-3 hours.

b. Jogbani Railway Station is only 3 kilometers far from the Big city Biratnagar of Nepal. From Biratnagar you can find direct public as well as personal vehicle for Ilam. Or you can take the survice upto Birtamod and go through option a. It takes 2 hours to reach Birtamod from Biratnagar. 

There are other semi options to reach Ilam from boarder side of India. Please note that if you have any planning to come from other points should take the bus to Birtamod first.
